Columbia Gorge Fruit Growers has been awarded an EPA grant through American Farmland Trust titled "Hood River Valley Codling Moth Management." This project involves 1200 acres owned and operated by 20 growers in the Dee Flat and Odell area of Hood River. The starting date for the grant was March 1, 2009and the completion date is October 15, 2009. The objective of the grant is to significantly reduce the amount of organophosphates used for codling moth control through an intense monitoring and mating disruption program. This project will serve as a model for the remaining 14,000 acres of tree fruit orchards in the Hood River Valley.
